KEITH Hill is confident David Cotterill has a bright future at Barnsley having impressed on his debut this week.
Reds boss Hill was delighted with Cotterill’s impact for the club despite losing 3-1 at home to Birmingham City.
And with a few more training sessions and matches under his belt, Hill believes former Sheffield United winger Cotterill will prove just why he signed him. “David showed he’s got experience and lots of promise,” said Hill.
“He just needs to get his match legs going again. You could see the sharpness is almost there, and he was superb in picking Craig Davies out for our goal. You expect that from a quality player though. Let’s hope he can build on his performance.”
Teenager Paul Digby also made his debut against the Blues with Hill making five changes to the starting team that beat Portsmouth.
Hill said: “Diggers did superbly well to last the 90 minutes; I was pleased with that.
“He was a bit too cautious at times, but other than that it was a good debut.”
Striker Davies now has 10 goals and, with Ricardo Vaz Te having left, the weight of scoring goals falls heavily on the former Chesterfield man.
Hill said: “Craig’s performance was superb, despite not getting the best of service. He never stopped trying, he showed lots of endeavour, he deserved his goal.”
