Barnsley are trialing former Scottish international winger Stephen Pearson.
The Star can exclusively reveal experienced ex-Derby County and Bristol City playmaker Pearson trained with the Reds today for the first time with the view to a permanent to Oakwell.
A free agent since being released by the Robins at the end of last season, 31-year-old Pearson is a former Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year having started his career north of the border.
Spells at Motherwell and then for Celtic, both in the Scottish Premier League, were followed by a move to a permanent move to Derby and loan spells with Stoke City and Bristol.
Pearson joined Bristol on a permanent deal in 2012 but last season missed six months after ankle surgery.
But The Star understands the player is now approaching full fitness and is keen to resurrect his career in South Yorkshire.
Meanwhile, the Reds have also been linked with a move to bring defender Peter Ramage back to the club on loan.
The former Crystal Palace centre-back played 23 games on loan for the Reds when they were in the Championship.
