Barnsley are set to sign Hull City striker Nick Proschwitz on loan today.
The Star understands Wilson is keen to sign the out-of-favour German striker to bolster his striking options.
Proschwitz, aged 27, has 18 months remaining on his Tigers’ contract, but has fallen down the pecking order with Steve Bruce’s sidehaving won promotion to the Premier League.
New signings Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long are believed to have convinced Bruce that Proschwitz would benefit from a move away from the KC Stadium.
Proschwitz will become the Reds’ fourth new signing under Wilson, with the Oakwell favorite have already recruited winger Brek Shea (Stoke City), right-back Ryan McLaughlin (Liverpool) and former Sunderland and Stoke City midfielder Liam Lawrence.
It is understood the Reds are looking to get the deal fixed so that Proschwitz can join the team for their three-day trip to County Louth to face Dondalk in a friendly fixture tomorrow night.
In a busy day at Oakwell, veteran striker Jason Scotland finally made his move away when he signed for Scottish Championship outfit Hamilton Academical until the end of the season.
The former Trinidad and Tobago international has struggled to cement a regular starting place ever since Wilson took charge for a second spell.
And with Wilson having exclusively revealed to The Star earlier this week that he was “close” to signing two new strikers, Scotland’s future always looked bleak.
With the Proschwitz deal secured, Scotland has been allowed to leave with the club’s blessing.
The 34-year-old is in the “twilight” of his career according to Wilson ,
Promising young hitman Danny Rose, meanwhile, penned a new two year deal to stay at Oakwell.
Former Reds’ striker Mido, who celebrates his 31st birthday today, has been appointed as the new manager of Egyptian club Zamalek.
