Barnsley boss Lee Johnson is delighted to have secured highly-rated Arsenal midfielder Dan Crowley on a six-month loan deal.
Crowley signed for the Reds yesterday until January 3, joining Manchester United loan midfielders Ben Pearson and Joe Rothwell at Oakwell.
The 17-year-old playmaker captained the Gunners’ FA Youth Cup side last season and has joined the Reds for first-team experience.
“Dan is an exceptional and exciting talent who is very highly thought of at Arsenal,” said Reds boss Lee Johnson. “I’m delighted to welcome him on board.
“Undoubtedly, at just 17 years old, Dan is one of the best young players in his age group in Europe.
“Dan has genuine, top-level skill and quality. I am delighted Arsenal have chosen Barnsley to aid the development of this exceptional talent, as well as aiding us in our pursuit of promotion.
“We are extremely pleased that we have been entrusted with his further development.
“This loan signing is further evidence that Barnsley can persuade some of the country’s best young talent to come to us, even where there is stern competition.”
A statement on the Gunners website read: “Everyone at Arsenal wishes Dan well for his time in Yorkshire.”
Cowley is “delighted” to have joined the Reds, especially because Johnson believes in his ability to shine in League One.
“It’s a great club, it’s great to be here,” said Cowley. “They’ve got a great manager, who believes in me, which is great.
“Lee has asked me to come here, express myself, enjoy it and help the club win games. He feels like he can develop me as a player, and I believe him, so I can’t wait to get started.”
