Barnsley boss Danny Wilson has told The Star that he is “close” to signing two new strikers.
Wilson has already signed three new players and let five players leave Oakwell since returning to manage the Reds for a second spell.
Former Reading and Middlesborough marksman Leroy Lita ,who had a productive loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday, is one of the many targets identified by Wilson as a player who can get the goals which will help the club avoid relegation.
But Wilson was keen not to reveal any names yesterday when quizzed on who he might be recruiting this week.
“We’re close to a couple [of strikers],” revealed Wilson, speaking exclusively to The Star.
“The search is ongoing. I’m hoping something drops this week, but we’re not 100 per cent on them yet.”
Wilson admits he’d love to sign both players in time for the club’s forthcoming trip to County Louth.
The Reds face Dundalk, the League of Ireland Premier Division side, in a friendly fixture on Friday evening after Saturday’s away clash with Wigan Athletic was postponed.
“That would be good, but we’ll have to wait and see,” he added. “We’re making progress.”
Wilson and his squad will fly to Northern Ireland tomorrow and return on Saturday for what he hopes will be a good “bonding” experience for his players, especially his new recruits.
