Reds boss Lee Johnson has revealed he would like to make “six or seven additions” to his squad for next season.
The Reds finished the season with five-star performance in a 5-0 win over Rochdale at Oakwell on Sunday.
And Johnson, having guided his side to within a whisker of securing a play-of place this term, is confident some new summer signings will put his side in a strong position ahead of the new campaign.
“We’ve got a strong group if we can make six or seven additions,” said Johnson. “We know they’ll be changes and we know they’ll be additions to the squad.
“Ideally I’d do my business as soon as possible, but sometimes that’s expensive.
“We’ve got to be careful because we don’t want to pay over the market value.
“We want to make sure the players come to Barnsley not just because we’re chucking money about. It’s a fine line, but we won’t be over-paying for anyone, that’s for sure.
“But we’re confident we can get the quality that’s required to have a bit more of a go than we did this year.”
Meanwhile, the club have announced their season award-winners with midfielder Conor Hourihane scooping the Fans’ Player of the Season accolade.
Other winners: Lewin Nyatanga (Players’ Player); Jack Walton (Academy Player); Sam Winnall (Disabled Supporters Player and Goal of the Season); Mason Holgate (Young Player); Mo Saeed (Promising Young Acadmey Player).
