League One newcomers Swindon Town want to sign former Reds full-back Jay McEveley.
McEveley had a successful loan spell with Paolo Di Canio’s League Two champions at the end of last season, before being released by Barnsley this summer.
Speaking about the 27-year-old left-back, Di Canio said: “Jay is definitely one of our targets. I suppose it’s obvious because he was here, but I do want to speak to him. ”
McEveley made 49 appearances for Barnsley after signing on a free transfer from Derby County in 2010.
The road will get a little easier for travelling Reds fans next season following the departure from the Championship of Southampton, Reading, West Ham and Portsmouth.
With Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday also coming up from League One, it means Reds fans will benefit as there will be over 1,000 miles fewer to travel over the course of the 2012/13 season.
The longest round trip from Oakwell will see the Reds travel 478 miles there and back from Brighton and Hove Albion, closely followed by Cardiff City [434 miles] and both Bristol City and Charlton Athletic .
The shortest will be the round-trip to Hillsborough of only 27 miles for the derby with Sheffield Wednesday.
