Barnsley will be looking to bounce back from three successive friendly defeats when they host Hull City at Oakwell today, kick-off 3pm.
The Premier League Tigers are in town and promise to give Danny Wilson’s new-look squad another stern test after pre-season defeats to Halifax Town, Al Ain and Torino.
Wilson would no doubt lose all of the club’s pre-season fixtures if that meant a winning start to the club’s first season back in League One.
And the re-building process continues with Wilson having already signed six new players to bolster his squad.
Goalkeepers Adam Davies and Ross Turnbull have been recruited to fight for the No 1 jersey following the sale of Luke Steele to Panathinaikos, while strikers Kane Hemmings and Sam Winnall have arrived to try and improve the Reds’ poor goal tally from last season.
Hemmings and Winnall have joined the Reds on the back of excellent seasons respectively. It will be interesting to see how the duo team up.
Midfielders James Bailey and Conor Hourihane have also been signed to fill spots which will be missing Jacob Mellis, Stephen Dawson, Jim O’Brien and Tomasz Cywka.
More new signings are expected with Doncaster Rovers quartet James Coppinger – who has said he has played his last game for the club - left-back James Husband, free agent centre-back Peter Clarke and experienced midfielder Richie Wellens all linked with the Reds, as is Wolves midfielder David Davis, who has been tipped for a loan move to Oakwell.
Meanwhile Barnsley season ticket holders have been invited to a free question and answer evening with Reds’ boss Wilson and the club’s chief executive Ben Mansford next Thursday. The event will be held in the Oakwell Legends Suite at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
