BARNSLEY continue to chase two more new signings to strengthen their squad before the new Championship season kicks off on Saturday 18 August.
And in an ideal world Reds boss Keith Hill would like to have his squad for the new season fully assembled before the club jet to Marbella for their annual intensive pre-season training camp.
The Reds head to Benavista on Sunday, July 8 for seven days of hard work in the sunshine.
But the camp also represents a great opportunity for the players to get together, especially the new summer signings, as Hill hopes to get his side ready to start the season with a bang.
Former Manchester City midfielder Kelvin Etuhu and ex Tottenham Hotspur striker Mido are both set to experience their first Barnsley pre-season tour, as will former Chelsea midfielder Jacob Mellis, another of the pre-season recruits.
And if all goes to plan Hill will also have another goalkeeper among his ranks as he looks to replace David Preece who was released last season.
The Star understands Hill still wants a left-sided midfielder, although another defender is on the manager’s radar if the right quality if available.
Hill tried to prise the experienced Gordon Greer away from Brighton without success.
Having had two offers rejected for Manchester United midfielder Oliver Norwood, the club are still keen to sign the players and The Star understands there is progress behind the scenes.
“We’re working hard to sign new players; hopefully we’ll have a couple more in the start of the new season,” said Reds director Don Rowing.
