Barnsley boss David Flitcroft will welcome back winger Dale Jennings for this Saturday’s away clash with Blackburn Rovers.

Former Bayern Munich and Tranmere Rovers midfielder Jennings has now served his three-match ban for a petulant sending off on the opening day of the season at home to Wigan Athletic. His return will be welcome as the Reds go in search of their first Championship win this season having lost two and drawn their three fixtures thus far.

Flitcroft is also expected to be boosted by the return of central defender Lewin Nyatanga who, having trained this week, is understood to be in the reckoning to feature against Rovers. Wales international Nyatanga has been missing since picking up a hamstring injury in the club’s pre-season fixture with Rotherham United.

However, the Reds are still without defender Martin Cranie. The former Coventry City centre-back is expected to be sidelined with a knee injury for another two to three weeks.

Flitcroft continues to cast his eye over Irish trialists Paddy McCourt and Gary Dicker, with potential permanent deals being struck before the weekend.

And the Reds boss is also understood to be chasing one or two new strikers, with former Sheffield Wednesday forward Leroy Lita, ex-Leeds United and Chesterfield player Davide Somma and Hull City’s Matty Fryatt are rumoured to be on their radar. Somma is now a free agent and currently training at Leeds as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury.

The Reds have announced plans for a special Q&A evening with former player Trevor Aylott on Friday 20 September. The event will take place in the Oakwell Legends Suite (7pm). Tickets are priced at £10.
