BARNSLEY are interested in signing Doncaster Rovers midfielder James Coppinger and Manchester City defender/midfielder Jeremy Helan, writes Neil Goulding.
The Reds have made an enquiry about Coppinger’s services and are waiting on Rovers chairman John Ryan coming back to them with a reply.
And manager Keith Hill has also expressed an interest in signing City youngster Helan to bolster his injury-ravaged squad.
Wingers Toni Silva, Jim O’Brien and Matty Done are all sidelined with injury, and midfielder David Perkins - who has played on the wing before - limped off with a hamstring injury in Tuesday night’s 3-1 away defeat to Wolves at Molineux.
Speaking to The Star, Hill said: “We’ve made an enquiry about James and we’ll have to see what happens, hopefully we can something by the weekend.
“I’ve also been speaking to his [Helan’s] agent, but I see him more as a defender than a midfielder, so it’s a case of whether I want to use square plugs to fill round holes.
“But ideally I’d like to get two players in for the weekend because the worry is that we’re really see-through at the moment.”
