BARNSLEY will not be extending David Gonzalez’s Oakwell stay, writes Neil Goulding.
Former Manchester City keeper Gonzalez was recruited as cover for the suspended Ben Alnwick and the injured Luke Steele.
The 30-year-old played three times for the Reds having started against Middlesbrough, Wolves and Brighton, but conceded eight goals in the latter two fixtures.
And with Alnwick now back from suspension and expected to start against Swansea City tonight, the club decided not to offer another set of non-contract terms to keep the free agent for longer.
“It’s unlikely we’ll be keeping David for any longer,” Reds director Don Rowing told The Star. “With the transfer window shutting on Friday it’s only fair that he has the opportunity to join other clubs.”
Meanwhile, Rowing confirmed the club have had no new bids from Crystal Palace for winger Matty Done.
