Goals from Kane Hemmings and Devante Cole gave Barnsley a 2-0 victory in their Johnstone’s Paint Trophy clash against York at Oakwell tonight.
Hemmings’ superb strike came after loan star Cole had earlier put the Reds ahead just after the hour, finishing off a cross from James Bree.
The Reds had started the second half the brighter of the two sides, and Conor Hourihane saw his free-kick narrowly go over Michael Ingham’s crossbar in the opening minutes.
Manchester City starlet Cole, son of former Manchester United legend Andy, looked the most likely to break the deadlock for the Reds early on, while Michael Coulson went close for the visitors.
Dale Jennings found his way into the notebook of Peter Bankes as the first half drew to a close, for protesting after a free-kick decision didn’t go his way.
