RICHIE Barker has been appointed the new manager of Bury following his successful caretaker spell in which the club sealed promotion to League One.
The former Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday striker took over when Alan Knill left Bury for Scunthorpe in April.
The club then won six of their remaining eight matches to clinch automatic promotion, a run which included Barker winning the League Two manager of the Month award in April. This run included a promotion-clinching 3-2 win at Chesterfield.
He was taken onto the staff at Gigg Lane in 2010 by Knill and became head of youth.
Sam Allardyce has been appointed manager of West Ham and says he is “determined” to take the club straight back into the Premier League. He has reportedly been offered a huge bonus should they be promoted next season. He has been out of work since his surprise sacking by Blackburn Rovers’ new owners in December.
Michael Owen has signed a new one-year deal at Manchester United.
