The south triumphed over the north in the first of the inter-league Premier Academy Development league fixtures.

As part of the player development teams from the north now face teams from the south division to make up the full fixture list.

Mark Smith denied Nana Boakye-Yiadom early on before the visitors took control with goals from defenders Cole Kpekawa and Harly Wise.

Kpekawa gave them the lead with a towering header from Comley’s cross before Wise turned in from a only half cleared set-piece.

Aaron Mitchell’s second half goal ensured them of the points with a 25-yard strike of top quality.

Sheffield Wednesday face south table-toppers Millwall tomorrow whilst United have got Ipswich Town.

Sheffield United academy graduates George Willis and Joe Ironside opened up the new state of the art facilities at Dearne Valley College last week.

The new AstroTurf is the very first 11-a-side IDNA X synthetic surface in the UK, and was supplied by market leaders, Desso, who also recently worked with Manchester United to provide their new pitch at Old Trafford.
