Everton £6m swoop on Sheffield United star

Everton boss David Moyes was today given permission to talk to Sheffield United right-back Kyle Naughton.

The Star understands the clubs have agreed of a fee of around 6m.

But the deal is subject to the player's approval.

He will be unlikely to play in United's friendly in Malta tonight.

Moyes had been given the go-ahead by his board to increase an initial bid and wants to fly the defender, 20, back from the Blades training camp.

Aston Villa also want Naughton, but Moyes is now considered the most likely to get their man.

Naughton, speedy and consistent, has become a favourite with the Bramall Lane faithful. He is a product of Sheffield United's centre of excellence and academy.

They won't want him to go - but most would recognise that it became inevitable when United failed to earn promotion from the Championship.

*Meanwhile, ex Blade Danny Webber could join Middlesbrough.
