Emily and Jay at the double in U -15 event

Emily Newman (King Edward VII) and Jay Rathi (Tapton) won two titles each in the Sheffield Schools Under-15 tournament at Abbeydale Park.

Emily and Charlotte Jeffs (King Edward VII) won all their girls doubles games to win the event with Alyah and Rania Karajeh finishing as runners-up.

Emily and Chris Kitching then beat Abu Hassan and Molly Newman 21-12, 21-9 in an all-King Edward VII mixed doubles final and Jessica Smith (Meadowhead) retained her girls singles title defeating Emily 20-22, 21-19, 21-16 in the final. In the boys singles semi-finals Jay beat Chris 21-12, 21-10 and Jake Steade (Tapton) defeated Sam Ting (Ecclesfield) 21-14, 21-15.

Jay then beat Jake 21-6, 21-11 in the final and the Tapton players then won the boys doubles final with a 17-21, 21-17, 21-15 victory over Chris and Abu.

* William Atkin (Ecclesall Junior), won both the boys singles and doubles titles in the Yorkshire BA U-11 tournament at York. Sam Fishwick (Dore Primary) and James May (Nether Green Junior) were group runners-up but William and John Lowe (Nether Green Junior) won all their group matches.

In his semi-final John lost 8-15, 8-15 to Alfie Evans (Harrogate). William then beat Alfie 21-8, 21-9 in the final.

Three Sheffield pairs competed in the same group in the boys doubles which was won by William and Isaac Clayton (Ecclesall Junior), with Sam and Russell Yeng (Bradway Primary) who beat James and John in three ends, finishing as group runners-up.

William and Isaac then won the event with a 21-10, 16-21, 21-14 victory in the final over Cameron Murray (Leeds) and Fred Robertson (Wakefield).

Romilly Calvert (St Thomas of Canterbury RC Primary) finished as runner-up in her girls singles group and Romilly and Ruby Blackburn (Sheffield HS Junior) lost 14-21, 15-21 to the eventual winners in their deciding girls doubles group match.
