DONCASTER’S Dean Hipwell posted a creditable top 20 finish in the 10th round of the British Supersport Championship held at the Assen circuit in Holland.
The Globalnet Telecoms Yamaha rider started Sunday’s race 20th on the grid.
He got off to a good start, picking up four places by the end of the first lap and by the end of the 12th lap Hipwell was up into 11th.
With just three laps to go Hipwell, and the four riders chasing him and the rider in front, were covered by less than a second.
By the end of the penultimate lap, however, with Hipwell fending off his challengers, the gap to 10th place was starting to increase and it looked as if he would have to settle for eleventh place.
But on the very last corner of the last lap Nikki Coates, in a do-or-die-move, went up the inside of Hipwell forcing him into the gravel. Hipwell managed to keep his bike upright to finish in 15th position.
