DONCASTER had two drivers, Aaron Mason and Simon Tomlinson, contesting round nine and ten of the PR Volkswagen Racing Cup at Snetterton.

Mason steered his Golf GTI MkV 2.0T, run by AWM Motorsport, into fourth spot in a time of 2 minutes 10 seconds in Sunday morning’s qualifying, with Tomlinson, driving the same car, finishing 14th in a time of 2 minutes 14 seconds.

Both drivers got off to good starts for Race One, on a dry track, with Mason pushing hard but he was unable to improve on his starting position on the grid and just missed out on a place on the podium after suffering suspension damage early in the race.

Tomlinson picked up four places in the race to finish tenth.

Mason started the second race third on the grid, with Tomlinson in tenth.

Both drivers got off to reasonable starts on a wet track with some drivers opting to go out on wets while the braver decided to stay on slicks.

As the nine-lap race progressed Mason was soon fighting for the lead but he fell back down the order and again took chequered flag in fourth. Tomlinson failed to finish and was forced into retirement on lap eight.

The next round will be held at Silverstone in September, when Mason will be looking to try and improve on fourth place overall.
