GREAT Britain’s men will return to their Sheffield training base on Monday, with star outside Dami Bakare hoping to build on his stunning summer of last year.
The 23-year-old is back after a season with Belgian side VC Argex Duvel Puurs and will join coach Harry Brokking and his team-mates at the English Institute of Sport in Attercliffe to the prepare for the Olympic Games.
That build-up started six years ago when the British programme was resumed with London in mind.
The squad has survived a number of funding cuts to remain intact today.
Bakare is looking forward to returning to the city after a difficult season overseas.
“The season in Belgium was not great. It’s pretty much the same as what happened last year,” he said. “The results were not the best then either, and the players didn’t come together as adequately as was needed to get results.
“I think I developed as a player last summer, and that was after a disappointing club season in Belgium, so I’m not particularly worried.”
