Arnaud Demare claimed victory in the inaugural Prudential RideLondon-Surrey classic after a closely-fought sprint finish on The Mall.
The 21-year-old Frenchman benefited from a fine display from his FDJ team to beat Sacha Modolo and compatriot Yannick Martinez in to second and third place respectively after launching his sprint just 150 metres from the finish.
Rotherham’s Ben Swift finished 10th, the highest-placed Brit, as Team Sky put in a low-key performance.
Demare, who was crowned Under-23 world road race champion two years ago, said: “I am really happy with the race.
“My team-mates did a really good job to get me into the perfect position.”
