Sheffield’s Adam Blythe has been named in the BMC Racing squad for this month’s Giro d’Italia.

Blythe and fellow Briton Steve Cummings will ride against Sir Bradley Wiggins at the Giro, which begins in Naples on Saturday and finishes in Brescia on May 26 .

Birkenhead’s Cummings and Blythe, aged 23, will ride in support of 2011 Tour de France champion Cadel Evans of Australia and American Taylor Phinney at the race.

Wiggins, the current Tour de France winner, of Team Sky is the favourite.

Klaas Lodewyck, Steve Morabito, Daniel Oss, Ivan Santaromita and Danilo Wyss complete BMC’s nine-man squad.

It is the third time Blythe had ridden the Giro - the first Grand Tour of the season. In 2010 and 2011 he failed to finish but he has been in good form this year with fourth place overall at the Tour of Qatar.
