Yorks will be Miller light

I see Yorkshire will be Miller light for this year’s Friend’s Life t20 after South African David Miller decided not to play for the White-Rose county in this year’s competition having been such a hit last season when Yorkshire reached finals day for the first time, writes Victor Chandler.

The 24-year-old has been away from his home country for some time with IPL and international commitments and his decision to return home ahead of the trip to Sri Lanka with his national side is a blow. Yorkshire are 12/1 to lift the trophy with Somerset 5s, Sussex 8s, Notts and Surrey 9s and Hampshire 10s.

Today sees the second semi-final in the ICC Champions Trophy with India meeting Sri Lanka in Cardiff; India are 8/13 favourites to reach Sunday’s final in Birmingham with Sri Lanka 5/4.

Wimbledon starts on Monday and Andy Murray showed his well-being when winning at Queens for a third time on Sunday. The British number one missed Paris to concentrate on the grass court season and he goes to SW 19 with every chance although our traders aren’t convinced and we are refunding all losing bets on the outright market up to £50 on the men’s singles title if Andy Murray wins.

This is a cracking offer although it is possible that the US Open Champion will have to beat fifth seed Rafa Nadal in the quarter-finals, defending champion Roger Federer in the semis and world number one Novak Djokovic in the final; that is very much the worst case scenario and we will know more when the draw is made later in the week.

Men’s singles title, Wimbledon; money back up to £50 if Andy Murray wins the tournament;

N Djokovic 6/4

R Nadal 10/3

A Murray 10/3

R Federer 11/2

We have priced up Sheffield United‘s opening day fixture at home to Notts County on Saturday,August 3 and make the Blades 10/11 to give David Weir a winning start at Bramall Lane. Up a division and we have seen money for the Owls at 5/4 in our market to finish the top South Yorkshire club but we are keen to lay them although both Barnsley (15/8) and Doncaster Rovers (11/5) are friendless.
