WHITLEY Hall warmed up in the best possible manner for Sunday’s big showdown.
The South Yorkshire League side convincngly won the Yorkshire Council Play-off Final when they crushed New Farnley by nine wickets at Methley.
Whitley dismissed the Central Yorkshire League side for 155 (Jaco Castle 4-31), a stand of 90 between Craig Russell, 58, and Sam Burge, 41, ensuring a total.
But it was no problem for Whitley. Second wicket pair Alex Fletcher, with five 6s and five 4s in 62no, and Alex Welsh, 59no, putting on an unbroken 134 as they romped home at 156-1.
It sets them up nicely for next Sunday’s clash with Central Yorkshire League giants Wrenthorpe in the Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy Final at Elsecar.
It a re-match of last year’s Champions Final, acknowledged as possibly the finest in this prestigious competition’s history, when Whitley pulled off a remarkable win.
They faced a formidable 296-6 and at 166-3 with 14 overs left when Jaco Castle walked in, Whitley weren’t the favourites.
But their South African all-rounder produced a stunning knock of 89no in 45 balls and Whitley actually pulled off a memorable victory with seven balls to spare.
