Whitley Hall aim to secure the first part of their quadruple trophy bid when they compete in the South Yorkshire League’s Whitworth Cup Final tomorrow.
They take on Wickersley in the 45 over clash at Wath CC (12.30).
Whitley are the holders and, in fact, are going for a hat-trick having triumphed in 2009 as well as last year.
Wickersley will be aiming for their first cup success since 2003. They have been in the final four times since, runners-up on each occasion including defeats by Whitley in 2004 and 2009.
Whitley are seeking to retain the Premier Division title but did lose top spot last week after their defeat at Treeton who got themselves firmly back into contention although they suffered a grievous blow with star all-rounder Steve Foster ruled out for the season with a broken arm. Elsecar are the new leaders.
Whitley will be seeking to triumph in the Yorkshire Council Play-offs (they lost to Treeton in last season’s final) and they also have another cup final in two weeks.
They play Central Yorkshire League giants Wrenthorpe in the Black Sheep Yorkshire Champion of Champions Trophy Final. This will be at Hanging Heaton CC on Sunday, August 21.
Only one other South Yorkshire League club has won this prestige competition for all the previous year’s champions across the county. That was Treeton in 1994.
In the league this afternoon it is Wickersley v Elsecar, Whitley Hall v Barnsley B, Rockingham v Treeton.
