Welsh is talk of the Town
ROTHERHAM Town secured their second Yorkshire League victory when they beat hosts Cleethorpes by eight wickets.
Strong bowling performances from Brian Telfer and Alex Welsh were complemented by some good batting, with Welsh not out on 61.
Cleethorpes struggled to 158-9 from their 55 overs as Telfer took key wickets to end with 4-39 while Welsh added 3-24 and Ben Sanderson bowled tightly.
In reply Rotherham – whose other win was a great one over champions York, needed just 32.1 overs to reach their target.
Welsh starred with his 61 not out while Leigh Walker scored 42 and Oliver Whittaker 38 to help secure victory at 160-2 and move up to 10th in the table.
Barnsley were narrowly beaten by just three runs by visitors Castleford after losing their last three wickets for just one runs.
Joe Ellis bowled unchanged for 28 overs and took six wickets and also scored 36 for the Shaw Lane men.
Castleford reached 177-7, helped largely by 62 runs from opener Steven Sacks. Ellis took 6-78 for Barnsley.
In reply, Barnsley had a bad start with the first two wickets falling for just 11 runs. Things got better and they seemed set for the win at 173-7, just five required.
But they lost two wickets at 173 and then the last one at 174, three short.
Jason Booth, run out for 37, was the top scorer, while Ellis added 36 and Greig Batty 32.
The clash between Sheffield United and Sheffield Collegiate fell victim to a waterlogged pitch while the game at Doncaster Town with Yorkshire Academy was also called off.

That's the same date for the Sheffield United-Doncaster Town tie which was curtailed with United 50-1 after 12.3 overs.
The Collegiate v Harrogate game was postponed.
