MICHAEL Vaughan was back where it began for him as he ‘opened’ the new £30,000 nets at his old club Sheffield Collegiate.

MICHAEL Vaughan was back where it began for him as he ‘opened’ the new £30,000 nets at his old club Sheffield Collegiate.

The former England Ashes winning captain took first knock at the official opening of the new four lane facility installed up at Abbeydale Park, the ground where he was first spotted by Yorkshire when playing on the outfield as a youngster during a county game and invited by them to go along for a net.

After the opening ceremony, overseen by Abbeydale President Gordon Hall, Michael, now a media commentator on radio and in newspapers, then cast an eye over the dozens of youngsters taking part in the weekly coaching sessions as part of the Michael Vaughan Cricket Academy at Abbeydale. Collegiate received a grant from the ECB for the net facility.
