Sheffield Collegiate’s slim title hopes suffered a setback in the Yorkshire Premier League when they lost out to Driffield.
Collegiate dropped to sixth spot after the defeat at Abbeydale, and it was Driffield’s bowlers that did much of the work, skittling Collegiate for 115 in just 37.5 overs.
Ashton Blakey scored 25 and Matt Lee 21, but there was no other strong resistance, with Dave Brent taking 5-27.
In reply, there was a great knock of 63 from opener Abid Ali who formed the majority of Driffield’s winning score. Junior Oliver Pearson took 2-13 for Collegiate.
There were some strong individual performances for Sheffield Unitedagainst league leaders York, but it wasn’t enough to take a shock victory.
United batted the full 55 overs and finished on 228-6. Mark Cummins was run out just one short of a century, while Paul Cummins scored 82 and Helgard Prinsloo 28.
But no other batsmen reached double figures, and three United players were out for ducks.
York needed just 36.2 overs to reach a winning 232-2, Liam KcKendry proving unbeaten on 94, while Jack Leaning scored 86.
Doncaster Town beat South Yorkshire rivals Barnsley by six wickets.
Barnsley reached 197-5 in, with Tom Shaw unbeaten on 94 and Jon Trower scoring 51.
Doncaster reached a winning 198-4 in the 49th over. Gareth Cox scored 57 and Stuart Guy 53 not out. Doncaster still secured six points from their victory which keeps them fifth in the table.
Rotherham Town were beaten by title-chasing Yorkshire Academy by six wickets.
Gareth Purshouse top-scored for Rotherham on just 25, while James Moorhouse scored 23 and William Cooper 21 towards their total of 133 all out.
Yorkshire Academy reached a wing 137-4 in the 32nd over, with on Ben Sanderson (3-37) doing much with the ball for Rotherham.
