BARNSLEY, celebrating their 150th anniversary this year, have kept themselves on course for a possible TV date in the National T20 competition.
They will represent the Yorkshire League in the Area Final after triumphing at the league’s T20 finals day at Scarborough.
They beat the Yorkshire Academy in the final by 19 runs, making 168-3 (Jon Trower 88, Jason Booth 48no) and then restricting the Academy to 149-8.
In the semi-final earlier in the day, Barnsley’s 147-6 (Simon Widdup 65no) was too much for Rotherham Town, 118-9 (Richard Wilkinson 3-27).
They go into the triangular Area Final, staged at Skegness CC on August 5, along with South Yorkshire League T20 champions Treeton and the Lincolnshire League winners Bracebridge Heath.
The winners from that trio then host the Regional Final against the winners from a parallel Area final and the winner of that game will go on to the National Finals Day, televised on Sky, at Edgbaston on September 6.
n Treeton romped to a 10 wicket win over Whiston Parish Church in the semi-finals of the South Yorkshire League’s Whitworth Cup having dismissed them for just 89. Scott Cunningham took 5-34 and Steve Foster made 55 not out.
The second semi-final is on Sunday when Wath entertain Aston Hall with the final at Treeton on July 29.
