ENGLAND spinner Graeme Swann has lost his place at the top of cricket’s one-day international rankings.
He is replaced by South Africa’s Morne Morkel who took 4-22 in their win over Australia in Port Elizabeth on Sunday while Swann has endured a difficult tour of India, managing just two wickets in the 5-0 series whitewash.
Swann drops to the third with New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori jumping up to second. Hashim Amla is the top ODI batsman.
Top of the Test rankings are Dale Steyn, bowling, and Jacques Kallis, batting.
Kevin Pietersen is to remain with England in the hope he will be fit to play in Saturday’s one-off Twenty20 international at Eden Gardens.
His broken thumb, injured fielding in the fourth ODI, was much improved yesterday and he will have a fitness test before the final fixture of England’s unsuccessful tour. This week’s Twenty20 rankings had England in top place.
Yorkshire wicketkeeper Gerard Brophy is the guest at Wombwell Cricket Lovers meeting tonight at the Ardsley Oaks WMC (7.30).
