FOR a side with their talent and record in recent years, Treeton have had to wait a long time, 11 years, before putting their name again on the South Yorkshire League’s Whitworth Cup.
To do so they convincingly saw off the challenge of the league’s surprise package this season, Aston Hall and it was Treeton’s star performer in recent years, Steve Foster, who picked up the Man of the Match award.
Treeton, who staged the game before a big crowd, elected to bat and made a formidable 290-6.
Foster, 89, and Gareth Davies, 24, put on 67 for starters and then Foster and Scott Cunningham, 90, added 106 for the second wicket.
Cunningham and Danny Kemp, 43, added another 60.
Aston lost opener Rohan Pooley first ball, were 43-4 before Amir Riaz struck 70 off 72 balls but were never in contention and ended 185 with Foster finishing with 3-36.
