CAPTAIN Andrew Gale has lavished praise on Yorkshire’s youngsters, including Sheffield starlet Joe Root, as they gear up for their maiden appearance in the Twenty20 finals day.
Dore ace Root is likely to bat at three against Sussex in their semi-final clash on Saturday, having plundered 65 runs from 40 balls in Yorkshire’s last eight victory over Worcestershire. England duo Jonny Bairstow and Tim Bresnan are also set to be available for selection to further boost Yorkshire’s hopes of securing silverware.
“Joe Root, Gary Ballance, Moin Ashraf and Azeem Rafiq have all come of age this year,” said Gale.
“They’ve all contributed and when young lads add that to the team then it really helps because it can take a while to find your feet in Twenty20.”
Root will hope to continue his fine form in this afternoon’s CB40 encounter with Kent at Canterbury, although Yorkshire have just pride to play for in the competition.
