JOE Root completed his fourth half-century of the summer to help steer Yorkshire to victory in just an hour’s play at Scarborough yesterday.
The 20-year-old from Sheffield finished 52 not out as Yorkshire completed a six wicket win over Worcestershire to jump above them and out of the relegation zone.
However, the joy was tempered when two of the 23 points they gained were deducted because of a slow over rate on Wednesday.
Resuming on 80-3 and needing 134, Root and Bairstow - who was capped on the opening day - took their stand to 60 before Bairstow was stumped off Saeed Ajmal for 33 with the score on 118 but by then victory was in sight.
Yorkshire play Lancashire at Headingley next Wednesday and hope to have Jacques Rudolph in the side.
