Division One leaders Nottinghamshire endured a long day in the field as Yorkshire made 291 for three on the first day of their LV= County Championship clash.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Yorkshire made the most of good conditions as Adam Lyth and Joe Sayers put on 114 for the opening wicket before the latter went for 50 shortly after lunch.

Lyth soon followed for 57, but Notts managed only one more wicket, that of Andrew Gale for 32, as Joe Root finished unbeaten on 89 and Jonny Bairstow brought up his half-century just before the close.
