Rotherham Town cricketer Jonathan Allan, aged 34, work at Sitwell Junior School as Higher Level Teaching Assistant.

What have you been doing today?

Teaching Year 3 Maths and on my breaks trying to chase sponsorship for my cricket club Rotherham Town CC!

Who is your inspiration and why?

My Dad - I know its a cliche but he always encouraged me in whatever I chose to do and always put me and brother before himself.

Which sports star did you admire when you were growing up?

Ian Botham was the first genuine hero of mine, he just had that charisma!

What’s your favourite other sport?

Football - I am a Millers season ticket holder and have watched them through the good and bad times since I was nine!

Who is the most famous person in your phone?

John Breckin & Toby Foster are recent additions due to my work in organising a T20 tournament in aid of Rotherham Hospice on July 7.

When was the last time you cried?

Last week when given out thigh pad before wicket - I’m 6ft 4inches tall - tears of disbelief were shed!

Who or what are you most proud of?

I am proud of my volunteer work at Rotherham Town CC, I play, coach, serve on the committee and various sub-committees and I am proud to be organising what I hope will be an terrific event on July 7 involving Rotherham United FC, Titans, John Breckin’s All Star XI and Rotherham Town CC.

What’s the best piece of advice you have received?

You can’t score runs when you’re sat back in the pavilion!

When did you know you were good at what you do?

Playing on Herringthorpe fields aged about three, all the older kids couldn’t get me out despite the fact that my pads were bigger than me!!

What one item do you take with you wherever you go?

Boring one this - my phone! Too much to sort out to be without it!

What is the most nervous you’ve ever been?

Waiting for my wife on our wedding day - she was 25 minutes late which I thought was pushing it a bit!

Do you ever doubt yourself?

All the time, luckily I have good teammates and friends who are there to pick me up straight away

What is your view on social networks like Twitter and Facebook?

Very useful in terms of publicising events like the one we are organising in July. But you have to be use them wisely and you have to watch what you post.

How do you relax away from sport?

Music and Comedy. I love live shows.

Where was your last holiday - and would you go again?

Went to Aix-en-provance, near Marseille at Easter - lovely weather, relaxed attitude to life. Yes I will go again!

Do you cook? If so what’s your favourite - if not who provides that favourite meal?

Yes - Sunday lunch, including home made Yorkshires!

What was the last book you read?

It was former England cricketer Marcus Trescothick’s autobiography whilst I was away in France

If you weren’t doing what you do, what would you do?

I really don’t know, I always wanted to work with kids right from being about 11 so I wouldn’t have a clue!

Favourite TV programme?

Really enjoyed “The Following” starring Kevin Bacon on Sky 1 - very scary!
