South Yorkshire League’s Premier Division tomorrow with the top two teams each meeting one of their closest rivals.

The new leaders are Wickersley - a club seeking to recapture former glories - and they entertain Whiston PC, the club they replaced as leaders last Saturday.

Meanwhile, second-placed Elsecar travel to big rivals Whitley Hall who are third but on the same points.Wickersley were the League’s major force for a decade from the mid-90s into the 2000s and are striving to become winners again - their last major honour was in 2005.

Whiston - who include former Wickersley favourite and run-scoring machine Andy Tomlinson - have been strengthening in recent seasons so they can make a bid to challenge for the title and they finished third last year.

Elsecar’s trip to Whitley Hall recalls memories of the unforgettable 2011 meeting there when they overhauled then leaders Whitley’s 310-8 in a game which proved pivotal in the title race won by Elsecar.

Hanging on to the coat tails of this leading quartet are Hallam who have proved a competitive outfit in recent seasons and they enjoyed a thrilling 12 run win over Whiston last Saturday to topple the Rotherham side from top spot.

In fact, their fixture tomorrow continues the clash of leading teams because the fifth-placed Sandygate club entertain Treeton who are a place behind them albeit some way off the pace - last year’s champions stand 23 points below the leaders!

Just as the top teams meet so do those at the bottom with Houghton Main, still awaiting their first win, at home to Norton Oakes who are one above them in second bottom.

Prem Div: Hallam v Treeton, Houghton Mn v Norton Oakes, Upper Haugh v Coal Aston, Wath v Aston Hall, Whitley v Elsecar, Wickersley v Whiston.
