WICKERSLEY and Elsecar will battle it out on Sunday for a place in the Yorkshire Council Championship Play-off final.
The South Yorkshire League (SYL) duo meet at Wickersley to see who will face one of the Central Yorkshire League sides, Methley or Wrenthorpe, who meet in the other semi.
It is the turn of the SYL to stage the final this year and it will be at Elsecar on Sunday, September 11.
In their quarter-final, Wickersley recovered from 70-7 to overhaul Ackworth’s 135 by one wicket in a nail-biter.
Elsecar, who dismissed Streethouse for 164, replied with 165-7.
Whitley Hall won’t now have the chance of four trophies after making only 103 and losing by four wickets to Methley. Wrenthorpe crushed New Farnley by ten wickets after dismissing them for 62.
The Championship’s Division One Play-off Final is on Sunday and is an all SYL affair with Darfield meeting Kexborough at Warmsworth CCF. Darfield overtook Carlton’s 210 for the loss of four wickets; Kexborough, 194-7, beat Batley by three wickets.
Abbeydale will have some famous names in action this afternoon when the famous Lashings side come north.
It could even see a return to the cricket fields of Sheffield for Devon Malcolm the former Derbyshire and England quick bowler who, of course, played across the other side of the city for Sheffield United.
Lashings play in matches that raise funds for charity and good causes and will play Sheffield side The Crabb CC pulled together from several local clubs with all money raised going towards St/Luke’s Hospice.
