Yorkshire didn’t get underway on the second day of their County Championship match until after 4pm at Durham and perhaps wished they’d never started at all.
Resuming on 57-3, they succumbed to a typically damaging spell from Graham Onions who had five of the first six wickets as he helped push Yorkshire towards 177 all out - a first innings deficit of 60.
Onions finished with 5-63 off 19 overs and he picked up three key wickets early on once the drizzle had abated.
Joe Root, 30 overnight as they resumed on 57-3, was bowled one short of his half-century whilst Jonny Bairstow was dismissed by a poor shot, caught by one of two men out on the deep behind square.
Gary Ballance was the next Onions victim and, as many teams have seen previously, Onions is a prolific wicket taker at Chester-le-Street.
Adil Rashid, in the side because Azeem Rafiq is out for a short spell with injury, made 25 whilst Liam Plunkett returned to his olld ground and was unbeaten on 25.
Notts took a grip on their Division One game at Derby when they closed on 325-5 replying to Derbyshire’s 256.
James Taylor is 67no, Ed Cowan made 59, Alex Hales 56 and Samit Pater 48.
