South African Jaco Castle was a vital cog in Whitley Hall’s Premier Division championship and Whitworth Cup triumphs last season, and is proving equally useful this term, taking four wickets as Aston Hall set a 200-7 target, Asadullah Butt hit 72. Castle then carried his bat for 68, Alex Fletcher also unbeaten on 50, after opener Jim Tasker’s 45, in Whitley’s six-wicket victory.
Whiston cruised to another six-wicket win after shooting out Hallam for 117, Scott Jones and Andy Winstanley doing the damage. Barnsley whipped out Rockingham for 95, Mike Thompson claiming 5-42 and teenager Perry Youel 3-9, to record a six-wicket triumph. Elsecar had seven wickets to spare after overhauling Wath’s 184-8, in which Andy Wood hit 64 and junior Archie Ogden 44. Hunsley’s knock was the full total made by Bradfield at the Wickersley ground, Haidar Jahangir taking four cheap wickets for the eight-wicket winners Wickersley B opener Matt Lowe cracked 115 of his side’s 243 against Elsecar B, but was on the losing side as the Division One hosts came back with 247-7, opener Adrian Meadows cracking 93.
A knock of 107 from Nicky Struggles took Whiston B to the highest score of the day, 308-5 against Thorpe Hesley (100).
