JOHNNY Younis led from the front as Wickersley Old Village stunned league leaders Whiston Parish Church in the Premier Division of the South Yorkshire Senior Cricket League.

A stylish run a ball 88 from Younis enabled Wickersley to post 221-8 in a tense local derby reduced to 43 overs a side due to rain. Shahid Hussain also contributed a rapid 60 with bat.

In reply, Whiston fell seven runs short of their target despite a well crafted 77 from Liam Heathcote, Hussain taking three for 38 for Wickersley.

Whitley Hall remain undefeated after seeing off Houghton Main by eight wickets. Whitley inserted Main, who ended up with 192-8 at the close of their innings, with South African Jaco Castle finishing with figures of five for 53. Whitley reached their total with six overs to spare thanks to an immaculate display from Neil Longhurst (99 No).

At Moor Road, Wath crashed to a 78-run defeat against Aston Hall.

The visitors batted first and Hall captain Rob Ward hit an unbeaten half century to enable his team to set 175 for seven.

Ryan Tingle claimed three for 12 as Wath were bowled out for 97.
