WITH just three County Championship games remaining, Yorkshire go into today’s clash with Warwickshire at Headingley knowing it is a must-win game.
Their heroic effort to chase down 344 from 51 overs against Sussex at Scarborough fell just short although the nine points gained did lift Yorkshire out of the two-team relegation zone.
However, they only lead Worcestershire by a point and they have a game in hand so it is imperative that Yorkshire bag winning points over the next four days.
They will have to do so without Jonny Bairstow who has been called up for the first time by England as part of the ODI squad for the game in Ireland on Thursday.
Also at that game will be Warwickshire’s Chris Woakes and they will also be without Irish pair Will Porterfield and Boyd Rankin.
Warwickshire’s title challenge suffered a severe jolt when they crashed to defeat to bottom side Hampshire who dismissed them for just 98, five successive batsmen scoring ducks as they slumped to 19-5 at one stage.
Yorkshire conclude with the return fixture at Edgbaston followed by the final home game against Somerset.
