Mike Hussey is out of the rest of the seven-match, one day series against England and is a major doubt for Australia's World Cup bid next month.
The 35-year-old left hander has undergone surgery on a torn hamstring suffered when batting against England on Sunday and faces a race against time to make the one day event on the sub-continent in February even though he has been named in their squad.
Shaun Marsh, who can open or bat in the middle order, replaces Hussey in the squad ahead of the second ODI meeting with England in Hobart on Friday.
For their World Cup tilt the Aussies have called up off-spinner Nathan Hauritz and left out left armer Xavier Doherty.
The Australians have omitted fast bowler Peter Siddle from the World Cup squad and included fellow Victorian all-rounder John Hastings despite the latter making just two ODI appearances.
England name their World Cup squad today.
