Flower’s surprise as the top order wilts again
.
ENGLAND coach Andy Flower admitted his surprise at how badly the batsmen had performed after Pakistan completed the 3-0 series whitewash in Dubai with a 72 run victory in the Third Test.
“We’ve obviously under-performed badly and I’ve been surprised by how poorly we’ve batted out here,” he said after watching his side be dismissed for 252 to lose by 71 runs.
“We’ve had some outstanding performances from the bowlers, backed up in the field, but the very obvious area (of weakness) is playing the spin.”
He conceded too that the side was under-prepared and took the blame for that.
Matt Prior’s unbeaten 49 and 49 from Alastair Cook offered the most resistance along with Eoin Morgan’s 31. The rest struggled with Andrew Strauss 26, Jonathan Trott and Kevin Pietersen both 18 and Ian Bell 10.
