England fail to back bowlers
AFTER doing the business with the ball, England’s bowlers will now need to show some batting prowess as well and add precious runs after a remarkable first day in the Third Test in Dubai.
In all 16 wickets fell for just 203 runs with Pakistan dismissed for just 99 before they hit back to leave England 104-6.
A dogged innings by skipper Andrew Strauss, who remained 41no, prevented another total collapse by England after making only 72 in the previous tes.
The bowler got into Pakistan from the start reducing them to 21-5 and then 44-7 before Asad Shafiq’s 45 enabled them to reach 99.
Stuart Broad took four wickets and James Anderson three but England were soon in trouble although had Jonathan Trott reviewed his lbw he would have been reprieved.
Strauss and Kevin Pietersen, 32, added 57 for the third wicket. Ian Bell,5, fell to Saeed Ajmal for the fifth time.
