ALEC Elliott still finished on the losing side despite a magnificent 160, as Brodsworth Main dropped down to third in Division Two of the Barnsley & District Cricket League after suffering a narrow 22-run defeat at lowly Rotherham Phoenix.
Batting first, Phoenix made a match-winning 249-9 despite a 5-40 haul by Michael Burns. Main were all out for 237 in reply.
Bottom club Barnby Dun, who made 184-8 in reply to Hoylandswaine’s 298-4, finished empty-handed away to their Barnsley rivals.
Mid-table Sprotbrough recorded a 14-run home win over Darfield. Pepper (45) was Sprotbrough’s top scorer in their knock of 144 all out. Alex Tate took 4-35 and Adam Buxton 3-16 in Darfield’s reply of 130 all out.
Division Three leaders Rossington Main had to settle for a four-point winning draw at home to Upper Haugh.
A knock of 86 was the highlight of Main’s 247-5. Andrew Gardiner (45 not out) and Sam Roby (45 not out) also chipped in. A 5-39 haul by Scott Wood helped Main to restrict the visitors to 191-9.
Second-placed Fishlake closed the gap following their six-point win in a high-scoring game against Doncaster rivals Tickhill.
Matthew Mason (76 not out) led the way in Fishlake’s 228-7 with Andy Shelton (45) and Josh Denby (30) providing useful support. Tom Barnett took 4-54. Barnett hit a top-score 75 in Tickhill’s battling reply of 225 all out. Matt Climo (35) also chipped in with a good knock. Tom Webster (3-57).
Warmsworth (227-7) beat visiting Stainborough by 79 runs Mullan took 3-19.
