If Yorkshire fail to secure the County Championship title in their 150th anniversary year, they will know where it all went wrong.

Their seven wicket defeat to Durham at Scarborough means Paul Collingwood’s side are now favourites for the crown, particularly with a game in hand (home to Sussex this week).

Too many Yorkshire batsmen failed in both innings and although well placed to save the game going into the final day at 276-1, albeit still 23 behind, they failed to hold Durham off despite the visitors being a bowler light.

With Phil Jaques, 152, and Kane Williamson, 97, removed in the first half-hour, Liam Plunkett, 42, and Jonny Bairstow, 34, then topped 30.

All out for 419, it left Durham to get 124 in 37 overs and they got home for the loss of three wickets with 10 overs to spare to go 5.5 points behind Yorkshire.

n England tied up the two match T20 series with a 27 run win over Australia and Chester-le-Street.

Alex Hales hammered a 91 ball 94 and Michael Lumb 43 off 27 balls in the 195-5 and Australia reached 168-9.
