Yorkshire taught Northamptonshire a lesson about life in the top flight after a blistering session by quick Jack Brooks on the second day of their LV= County Championship match at Headingley.

The newly-promoted visitors were ripped out for 94 in a session as Brooks (five for 36) claimed his best first-class figures since moving north to the White Rose county two years ago.

Ryan Sidebottom played his part with four for 19 and will start Northamptonshire’s second innings on a hat-trick. Yorkshire, who scored 459-9 in their first innings, have already enforced the follow on after knocking Northants over for 94.

The weather, however, looms as a potential hazard for the hosts after there was no play after tea - and a poor forecast for Tuesday - to offer Northamptonshire some much-needed respite as they pondered a 365-run deficit.
