YORKSHIRE’S promotion back to Division One of the County Championship at the first attempt has been confirmed and going up with them are Derbyshire, writes Bob Westerdale.
The counties were able to celebrate when nearest rivals Kent lost their game at Glamorgan.
The title will now be decided on tomorrow’s final day of the season with Yorkshire needing to beat Essex and hope Derbyshire fail to beat Hampshire although a Yorkshire draw and defeat for Derbyshire would do it too.
Yorkshire, for whom Barnsley’s Azeem Rafiq scored 75 not out to add to his earlier half-century and three wickets, are in a strong position after setting Essex 388 to win.
However, if Derbyshire win, - and they will be batting last when they bowl out Hampshire - then they will be champions.
