Sheffield’s Joe Root wrote himself into the record books once again as he scored a magnificent ton in England’s ODI against India at Headingley earlier today.

Root scored 113 from 108 balls as England - 3-0 down in the series against the touring Indians - posted a competitive total of 294-7 from their 50 overs.

In doing so, Root became the only Yorkshire player in history to score a ODI and Test century at Headingley.

Twitter was soon awash with messages of congratulation. Former Yorkshire team-mate Tino Best, of the West Indies, said: “I played with the kid @joeroot05 back in 2010 at Yorkshire and I told him: ‘little man, you will be a star’. Congrats son.”
