Yorkshire’s latest England newcomer Gary Ballance can look back on an excellent season in which he was clearly the county’s top run scorer.
The county averages show the left hander made 1,251 runs in the Championship at 62.55 with a top score of 148.
He had five 100s and six 50s and only two in single figures.
But he still finished second in the averages to Joe Root. He had only three innings but his 456 runs included 236 and 182. His average? 155.66.
The only other player to top 1,000 runs was skipper Andrew Gale with 1,067 at 44.45. Adil Rashid’s good season with the bat saw him notch 825 runs. Aussie Phil Jaques, not retained, made 770.
Ryan Sidebottom, with 49 wkts, topped the bowling at 20.30. Steve Patterson took 46, Liam Plunkett 36, Jack Brooks 34 and Rashid 29.
